A recent study in Sheffield Children’s Hospital has concluded that nurses prefer TRITEMP™

Precise temperature assessment is vital in adolescent & neonatal healthcare. However, other methods, such as axillary thermometers, often present challenges in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and patient comfort. To address these shortcomings, TriMedika partnered with Sheffield Children’s Hospital to conduct a rigorous study comparing the TRITEMP™ non-contact infrared forehead thermometer to a standard axillary thermometer.

Study Highlights:

  • Equivalent Accuracy: The TRITEMP™ demonstrated comparable accuracy to the axillary thermometer across all pediatric age groups, from newborns to adolescents, with both methods measuring temperatures within ± 0.1°C.
  • Superior Precision: The TRITEMP™ exhibited significantly less variability, with a standard deviation of 0.05°C compared to the axillary thermometer’s 0.1°C, resulting in more reliable and consistent temperature readings.
  • Enhanced Patient Experience: The non-invasive nature of the TRITEMP™ significantly reduced patient discomfort and distress, particularly in neonates.
  • Time Efficiency: The TRITEMP™ offers rapid temperature measurement in just 1-2 seconds, compared to the 3-5 minutes required for axillary measurements, optimising workflow and enabling healthcare professionals to allocate more time to patient care.
  • Infection Prevention: As a non-contact device, the TRITEMP™ minimises the risk of cross-contamination, contributing to a safer healthcare environment.

Nurse Endorsement: Nursing staff overwhelmingly favored the TRITEMP™ for its ease of use, speed, and positive impact on patient care. The thermometer’s ability to reduce workload, enhance infection control, and improve overall patient experience was widely praised.

Conclusion: The findings of this comprehensive study establish the TRITEMP™ non-contact thermometer as a superior alternative to axillary thermometers in pediatric care. By delivering accurate, efficient, and patient-friendly temperature measurements, the TRITEMP™ represents a significant advancement in pediatric healthcare.
